The spokesman of the Senate, Senator Sabi Abdullahi has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari has no opposition in the 2019 presidential election. The All Progressives Congress (APC) senator representing Niger north senatorial district, said it will be far more easier for Buhari to defeat Atiku than most people are anticipating. According to him, the president does not have serious challenger in the forthcoming elections.
“I don’t see any serious challenge here. Definitely, Mr President will win his re-election in 2019. I can bet my life on it,” the APC senator told Daily Sun. When reminded about the crisis in the ruling APC and the attendant effects of it ahead of the elections, Senator Abdullahi said President Buhari is isolated from the crises His words: “The president has a very high chance. If you look at the states where there are crises, the president is isolated. It’s either about governorship primaries, House of Assembly or others.
To my mind, it will not affect the president. If anything, it gives the president a high chance more than the way people are looking at it.”
Meanwhile, American congressman, Christopher Smith, has urged President Donald Trump to use his sanctioning authority to hold accountable any Nigerian official who subverts the 2019 electoral process or foment violence against citizens. Smith who is the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on Africa, gave the advise in a statement published on his personal website on Saturday, December 21. “I call upon the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that elections will be free and fair, and for the commission to remain impartial,” the lawmaker said.
