A two-year-old girl in the US has suffered permanent brain damage after she was struck by a foul ball as she watched a baseball game with her family.

The child was in the stands at a Chicago Cubs game the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas in May when a player’s line drive into the crowd hit her in the back of the head, fracturing her skull.

Albert Almora sunk to his knees on the pitch in shock as he realised the ball travelling at about 100mph had hit a small child, bursting into tears while fielding.

The crowd reacted in shock as thousands witnessed the ball hit the toddler sitting on her grandfather’s lap on third-base line in the Houstron Astros home ballpark’s lower bowl.

Six months on, she has been diagnosed with permanent brain damage equivalent to a stroke and must take anti-seizure medication, her family’s lawyer told the Houston Chronicle , which has not named the
