Iran threatens crushing revenge on US after killing of top army commander

Iran has threatened that “a harsh retaliation is waiting”and that it will take crushing revenge for the killing of Qassem Soleimani.

Also killed in the airstrike which struck the Baghdad International Airport was Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis who was leader of Kata’ib Hezbollah, also called Popular Mobilisation Forces in Iraq.

The strike followed several warnings from American authorities that there would be harsh consequences for the Tuesday’s violent protest at the embassy in Iraq.

The United States has asked all American citizens to leave Iraq immediately.
