‘Police Officers Must Engage Host Communities To Flush Out Crime’

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Austin Iwar, on Monday, said police officers must engage residents of their host communities to successfully combat crime.
The Police Commissioner believes that crime can be fought successfully only when officers work closely with their host communities and ensure their safety and security.
Iwar said this during a training on Community Policing Concept conducted for area commanders and Divisional Police Officers.
Due to the increasing level of crimes all over the world, some countries have adopted various approaches to tackle their peculiar security challenges.

In Nigeria, the sophistication of crimes and the overstretching of the security apparatus require that the police officers alone can no longer secure the entire society, hence the call to collaborate with their host communities.
The Police boss explaining the purpose of the training programme said it is aimed at equipping the officers with knowledge and skills to execute their tasks effectively.
He said he is certain that the training will refresh the officers’ competencies in basic policing skills, predicated on practical police-community partnership approach to policing components.ly.
“With the workshop content and array of facilitators, I have no doubt that participants at the end of the workshop will return to their duty post more energised and competent to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.”
It is hoped that the impact of this training will manifest in positive outcomes reflected in improved capacity and improved policing services to ensure safer community.
