Little Nimota Aminu, who has been diagnosed with a heart disease, will need about N5m for treatment abroad.
Nimota’s father, Mr. Ibrahim Aminu, disclosed that she was diagnosed in 2015 and advised to go for a surgery in India.
A copy of a medical report signed by a Consultant Paediatrician at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Prof. C. Okoromah, and stating Nimota’s condition, was made available to our correspondent.
The report read, “A clinical evaluation indicated that Nimota has systematic congenital heart disease, which was confirmed by echocardiography, consisting of a large-sized ostium secundum atrial septal defect, shunting left to right, right ventricular dilation and dilated pulmonary arteries.”
Nimota was referred to a hospital in India. In his acceptance letter, the Director and Chief Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Surgeon at the Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology Hospital, India, Dr. Robert Coelho, said, “I am happy to accept this patient for further evaluation and open heart surgery.”
Coelho put the cost of the girl’s treatment at the sum of $8,500 and added that she would have to stay in India for 15 days.
Aminu, in an interview with our correspondent, appealed to well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organisations to come to the aid of his ailing daughter. He said, “Nimota will be three years-old by September, but she has yet to start school because of this ailment. We need up to N5m for her treatment, as well as for air tickets, medical and feeding expenses for the duration of time that we will spend in India.”
